The Kaossilator

I would love to have one of these! It's a small digital Oscillation Module from Korg that's controlled by touch. Hours of entertainment!

Here's what the Korg Website has to say about it:

"The KAOSSILATOR is a new pocket sized instrument that packs Korg's world renowned synth sound along with innovative performance features into an ultra-compact unit. Anyone can instantly play musical phrases by simply tapping or sliding their finger across the KAOSSILATOR’s touch pad..."

Slack Magazine Slack issue #4- SEX in the '90s

My neighbor Mark used to publish Slack Magazine back in the 90's. Recently, he has been putting them online. This particular issue deals with Sex in the '90's which came out right after Prince's Hits/B-side 3 CD set.

"Well this Slack issue came out following the release of the 3-CD Prince collection The Hits/B-sides. So this means, these 3 CDs were all I listened to while I designed this issue (I have 2 Prince songs in my DJ list). For a lot of people, songs remind them of special and memorable moments. Well, a lot of the Prince B-sides remind me of designing this particular issue of Slack. Wierd, huh?... especially She's Always in My Hair and 17 Days."

You can download the magazine on his blog Roam Buffalo.

Project Indigo (working title): Design of a vertical seaside metropolis

I found this very interesting city/graphic design by Jesse van Dijk called Project Indigo. The concept is a metropolis built in a creator in the sea. Not only does Dijk create beautiful art work of the city, but if you read the text you will realize that great though has gone into the infrastructure how such a society would work.

"My principle idea for this city came down to a (somewhat) harmonious society with huge differences in standards of living. Because flat ground is so expensive, only the super-rich can afford to live on top of the pillar, where the climate is nice and sun-hours are plentiful.

As one descends into the pit, the hours the houses are exposed to direct sunlight daily decrease, making house prices lower, which is why the poorest groups of society live at the bottom of the pit. However, people are not neccessarily unhappy at the bottom, there are still children playing in the water, etc. While there is crime (and more of it in the poorer/lower districts) it's a time of peace, not war."

I would love to see this society be the backdrop for a feature film. The society and scenery alone would be reason enough to see the movie.

Audiotool

Here's a fun little flash application called Audiotool where you can use these old school drum machines in combination with some old synth's to create a groove. It loads a little slow but it's worth the wait.

Sex Funk Ambulance

Just a quick note that I pre-released my new song,
Sex Funk Ambulance
, featuring myself, aka Pharaoh, and Jen X. I put it up on SoundClick.com on a whim and in 4 days I went from nuttin' to #15 in the funk charts. That's out of 4,000 + songs in that genre!

Sex Funk Ambulance is about a party that's so intense with funk and beautiful people that you feel as though your heart is going to explode, but don't worry, the Sex Funk Ambulance is on it's way. I recorded it in my attic studio, sometimes known as Funkopolis. Jen X provided the backup vox, which I must admit, are me favorite part of the song.

Please check it out on SoundClick.com and help me hit that number 1 spot in the Funk Charts! If you like, stop by my redesigned website, Funkship.com.

HOW Design Conference: And Why It Rocked

I was lucky enough to be able to attend the HOW Design Conference ‘08 in Boston from Sunday, May 19 – Wednesday, May 21, all paid for by my employer. I have never had an opportunity to do anything like this before, so you can imagine that I was very excited. I say that I was lucky because the money was going to go to a co-worker but at the last minute he was unable to use it...More>>
